Eating Disorder & Body Image Therapy

Often co-occurring with other mental health conditions, negative body image and eating disorders (ED) are a serious issue for people of nearly any age. These conditions not only lead to restrictive and impulsive eating patterns but almost more concerningly reshape people’s thoughts in a way that’s particularly hard to shake.

Societal pressures, coupled with the false sense of security created when those struggling with EDs are able to maintain a specific weight or diet, forms a web that reinforces disordered habits while obscuring their root causes, tricking the brain into seeing the distress, shame, and anger one feels towards themselves as normal.

Let THRIVE show you how you can untangle yourself from these damaging behaviors and feelings, and build a healthier mindset surrounding your body image, food intake, and exercise.

The Approach

I believe therapeutic relationships are built on consistency and honesty. This non-judgmental environment provides a place where you can feel safe to work on your eating habits and body image and identify the barriers that are making them stick.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Often, EDs develop from a need to control food, body image, and weight. CBT helps identify areas in a person’s life where they feel a lack of control, making it a preferred treatment of choice as it focuses on these root causes rather than the external biproduct.

Applying CBT fundamentals such as journaling, reframing thoughts, and identifying triggers, sets the groundwork for you to start making the behavioral changes in your daily life that are crucial to your success.
