Depression

Depression is difficult to endure, often making it hard to see the possibility of overcoming it. Between the overbearing negative thoughts, the changes in sleep and appetite, and the overall loss of drive, those affected are often left feeling drained and isolated. The underlying causes of each person’s depression are different and can be hard to identify.

While the challenges of depression are undeniable, those who suffer from it often feel unable to fully express the weight of what they’re experiencing. Many people who struggle don’t speak up as they fight their battle, making it difficult for friends and family to know how they are feeling. I want you to have a place to discuss the way you’re feeling and start working towards a path forward that feels manageable for you.

The Approach

At THRIVE, I work to help patients better understand the symptoms of their depression and find its root cause so they can begin loosening the grip it has on their thoughts and emotions.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Because depression alters the way people perceive themselves and their emotions, CBT is one of our treatments of choice, as it forces you to identify cognitive distortions and reframe them to be more realistic and positive, leading to a better quality of life.

Strength-Based Therapy

Living with depression takes more strength than most people realize, especially those struggling with it. I use strength-based therapy to assist individuals in identifying what their strengths are and how they can be used  to help build a more positive mindset.

Play Therapy

It can be especially difficult for children to understand their negative feelings. Play Therapy provides them a safe environment to identify and discuss the emotions they are feeling while showing them coping skills to use when those feelings come up.
